Susan thinks this one would look good in B&W.

depth of field
In hindsight I would have (also?) liked to have taken this picture at f8 on this camera.
Brian says this is a problem of a wide-angle shots taken by less than stellar optics. He recommends taking wide-angle shots like this using a camera that supports a much better lens.

Crater Lake
These photos are breathtaking!

foreground
I like the hint of snow in the foreground, and wish that I had known that the contrast would have come out the way it did - the foreground trees are darker than I expected and the sky and water near the horizon are lighter than I expected.

Looking back in time...
I wonder if this is an example of genetic memory or something.
I'm sure at least one more or less scientific paper could be written about this phenomenon.

If only...
I wish I would have taken this at 200 or even 100 ISO...
I didn't learn about the ISO problem on my camera until later, as I recall.
Brian says this is a problem with the JPG compression at this ISO, and I can also fix this problem by shooting TIFF. I should also try using SHQ mode.

Re: Where is this?
Glad you liked it. I took the picture from the road to Castle Lake - it's probably Black Butte, just west of Mt. Shasta.
